IBAN-codes

For some countries payments must contain both an IBAN and a BIC. If a payment does not meet these requirements, it will be rejected. These countries are marked with an asterisk *.

For some of the countries where IBANs are mandatory, an additional IBAN-only principle ap-plies. This principle implies that only an IBAN is needed to identify the beneficiary’s bank. Nordea will derive any needed information on the benefiary’s bank from the IBAN. If a pay-ment instruction contains information on the beneficiary’s bank, it will be ignored and substi-tuted by the information that can be derived from the IBAN. Countries where the IBAN-only principle applies are marked with two asterisks **.

For Denmark the IBAN-only principle applies for payments only in EUR. This also means that IBANs mandatory for payments to Denmark in EUR – but only in EUR. This is marked with with three asterisks ***.
